How to avoid any nightmare when taking your ipad to local repair shops?
Last summer my nephew dropped my iPad on the tiled porch floor. Poor thing instantly shattered into million pieces and the screen needed to be replaced.
At the time of purchase my cheap ass didn’t
bother to get Applecare+ and now the iPad was out of warranty. We all know how
expensive a screen repair can be when your device is out of warranty.
Many people resort to local IPad repairs in
New York City to avoid paying hundreds of dollars in repair to official
store. I took my device to a local repair store as well. As I mentioned my
iPad just needed screen replacement. I went in dropped the device the person on
the counter told me to come pick it after a couple of hours which was fine by
me as I had to run some errands.
when I went back to store to pick the device
back, something was strange. The iPad looked bent. I told this to the person on
counter and he straight up refused to acknowledge my concern, telling me the
device was already bent when I dropped it off for repair.
To say the least I was exacerbated at such a blatant lie but I had no proof to validate my claim that they messed up my iPad. I couldn’t ask them to fix it or pay for the damages. I ended up bringing the half-bent device home cursing the time I decide to go for local IPad repairs in new York city.
To help others avoid the inconvenience I had to face, I have compiled a checklist, In case you have to go to a local repair shop.
Take picture:
Always take a picture of your device before
you drop it for repair at the store. This way you will have a proof if any
damage happens to the device.
Certified technicians:
Always got to a store with certified
technicians. You will be paying money for their services so don’t shy away from
asking them for their certificates.
Do your research:
Before going to any iPad repair store, do your
research. Check for online reviews and beware of the companies with paid
reviews. Trust me once you start looking, you’ll be able to identify between
paid and genuine reviews. Go for a store with actual good reviews.
Invest in applecare+:
Lastly, I would suggest investing in applecare+
as many local repair shops end up bending your devices when they repair the
screen. And screen repair/replacement is the biggest issue in apple devices.
Paying just $10 per month can save you a lot of trouble.
